F1 | Sauber, Bottas returns to Q2: “The new components are working well”
The Finn is twelfth, while Zhou will start from eighteenth place
Budapest – The new updates of Sauber they seem to be working and this is demonstrated by their entry into Q2 Valtteri Bottas. The new components were in fact mounted only on the Finn's car, which passed Q1 with an excellent tenth position; in Q2 Valtteri managed to get on the sixth row with twelfth position, thus placing himself close to the points zone, his objective.
Bottas: “The new components are working well”
“I'm happy with how today went. I think we made the most of the car, without leaving anything unfinished: it's a good feeling, a step in the right direction compared to the last qualifying sessions. We were really close to Q3, just a couple of tenths separated us, which confirms that the new components are working well. The track has improved compared to yesterday, and this allowed us to compete. I think we can fight for points: it's difficult to overtake on this track, and that will help us defensively, but hopefully we can attack and move towards the top 10, that's our goal."
Zhou: “Out of Q2 by a whisker”
Different qualification for Zhou Guangyu, eighteenth. The Chinese driver – still with the old specification – was unable to manage the balance of the car well, missing out on Q2 by two tenths.
“The conditions in qualifying were complicated. My last attempt was clean, the track was dry, but I struggled with the balance and so I just missed out on Q2. The car has improved, there is progress and the direction taken by the team with the updates on Valtteri's car is the right one. Tire management in the race will be crucial to recover position: I'm confident the team will continue to push and make sure that everything goes well."
