Former Formula One driver Mika Salo has positively assessed Fernando Alonso's choice, shared by McLaren-Honda, to give up the Monaco Grand Prix - scheduled to take place in the streets of the Principality on May 28th - to fly overseas and compete in the legendary Indianapolis 500.
"I think it's a fantastic opportunity for him – Salo told the Finnish television station C More – True, he will lose a Formula One race but he still wouldn't have the chance to win it. It's nice to see drivers who, as in the past, move from one category to another".
Furthermore, Salo also spoke about McLaren. For the Finn, the Woking team must do everything not to lose Alonso: “They need his experience and motivation. Clearly I have to give him a competitive car".
