The McLaren driver reiterated that he has no intention of commenting on the rumors that he would be on the Ferrari seat next year. In addition to him, Daniel Ricciardo is also on the list of probable replacements for Sebastian Vettel, in the event that the latter decides not to renew the contract with the Maranello team.

“I try to stay out of it -commented Carlos Sainz to Mundo Deportivo- I read a book or watch a TV series. But as you all know, I also like to follow Formula 1 news and as for the rumours, I won't tell you anything because there's really nothing new. Formula 1 is blocked and nothing is moving."

“What I can tell you is that I have confidence in my abilities, I think I made a very important step forward last year. So whether it's in Ferrari, Mercedes or McLaren, I think I'm capable of doing well. I don't think you should have any doubts about it."

According to the latest news, the championship should restart in July, with the Austrian Grand Prix. According to some, it would be too reckless to start the season without a vaccine and this could put the entire world championship at risk, which would inevitably be cancelled.

“I prefer not to think about it but it would be really bad for Formula 1. I prefer to think that there will be a solution, that everything will be sorted out and we can return to normality soon.”

Like many of his colleagues, the Spaniard also agrees on playing races behind closed doors:

“Obviously I would prefer if everyone was there like a normal weekend full of public, but I think we need to find temporary solutions at least for a lot of jobs that are in danger”.
