F1 | Sainz on the comeback in the Turkish GP: "A pleasure, I could push very hard"

Carlos Sainz was one of the main protagonists of the Turkish Grand Prix, held last Sunday at Istanbul Park, where among other things he was awarded with the recognition of driver of the day. The Spaniard, who mounted Maranello's new advanced power unit in the last round, built an excellent comeback that took him from the back of the grid to P8. Discussing the progress of his race, the Cavallino standard-bearer admitted how he enjoyed recovering numerous positions.

"When you have this pace and a track that allows you to overtake, especially when it's wet, it was a pleasure and I could push very hard – said Sainz, quoted by RaceFans – Obviously it was a shame about that pit stop which made us lose the chance of finishing in the top five. Congratulations to the team because the car was really nice to drive. From the start we had excellent pace in the wet. And then as the track was drying, we were tracking the conditions very well. I did a lot of overtaking, every single overtaking on the track. I wasn't lucky at any point".

Among the battles that kept Sainz busy there was also the one with Sebastian Vettel, where the Spaniard lost control when braking the long straight and came into contact with the German's Aston Martin.

"I've already apologized to him because I was a little too optimistic – Sainz admitted – These Mercedes engines are so difficult to overtake, so you either try under braking or you don't overtake them. And I wanted to continue the comeback and I didn't want to get stuck behind, it worked. So I'm very happy".
