F1 | Sainz Sr: “Carlos has the ability to win a world championship”

According to Carlos Sainz Sr, his son has the potential to win the world championship. Carlos Jr made his Formula 1 debut with the Red Bull program and drove for Renault before moving to McLaren. The Spaniard is the best in the center of the grid and has contributed to bringing the British team to fourth position in the constructors' standings.

“Carlos is still a very young rider, he has just turned 25”, Sainz Sr commented to Europa Press.

“I've always tried to be very objective about him and I think he has the ability to win a world championship. I wish he could have a machine that allows him to do that."

However, the two-time world rally champion praised McLaren for the progress made this season:

“McLaren is working well, it has established itself as the fourth team. On a personal level, Carlos has also taken a very important step. He has matured, he is happy and the most important thing is that McLaren is happy with him."

Regarding the criticisms leveled by Sainz for never being framed by the director, the father added:

“Certainly if McLaren takes another step forward, Carlos will be seen more on television.”
