F1 | Sainz: “I don't regret signing for Ferrari”

There are now only a few races left and Carlos Sainz will say goodbye to McLaren to start a new professional adventure: in fact, Ferrari is in the future of the current standard bearer from Woking, where starting from next season he will share the garage with Charles Leclerc.

The Spaniard, interviewed by Mundo Deportivo, spoke about the challenge that awaits him in Maranello. It won't be easy, given the current technical/sporting situation the Scuderia finds itself in, but Sainz can't wait to be able to make his contribution to the Red team's cause.

"Let's hope that Ferrari does a good job and that next year we can have a competitive car. And if not, it's always Ferrari! – Sainz admitted – For example, even if Real Madrid doesn't have good years, everyone follows Madrid in bad years. I go to Ferrari with the intention of winning and being able to compete for a legendary team".

The Spaniard is also aware that it will take some time to find the Red car up front: “I think what we need to ask of them (the fans, ed.) is patience and trust in the project. It's a very young project, Mattia Binotto also said this last year and now we have to wait and see if things improve a little but they will certainly improve. Changing a car to suddenly win races will be difficult. Next year will be a difficult year but if Ferrari spends the 'tokens' in the correct areas to use them, we can do better than in 2020".

One thing is certain, Sainz did not regret signing for Maranello: “It's such an incredible feeling that many of the best drivers in F1 history have not even been able to have. That's why people who ask me if I regret or doubt Ferrari, well I say no".

The arrival at Ferrari is also thanks to McLaren, which gave Sainz a competitive car: “Without a team like McLaren, who gives you that confidence to perform at my level, that signing would never have come".
