F1 | Sainz admits: “In Williams I will have to fight for points and not for victory”
"But it's a position I've been in for seven out of ten years of my career," the Spaniard thought.
2025 will bring Carlos Sainz a new professional challenge that will see him race for Williams, with whom he has signed a multi-year contract. The Spaniard, who is preparing to close the fourth and final season with the Ferrari suit where he will be replaced by the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, will start again from the Grove team where he will be paired with the Thai Alexander Albon.
Sainz, discussing the choice made, underlined how clearly the objectives to be pursued will change compared to the period spent in Ferrari but at the same time the future Williams standard-bearer admitted that the fight to get into the points zone has in fact characterised most of his career in Formula 1. But the focus of the number 55 always remains the same: to be able to improve the Grove team, a characteristic that has always accompanied the experiences in Formula 1 of the Madrid driver.
“It’s something I’ll have to get used to,” Sainz told AS. “But it’s a position I’ve been in for seven of my 1 years of racing, fighting for points and not winning. It’s the life of an F20 driver. You can ask a lot of other drivers who have been in that situation. Nothing guarantees you’ll fight to win, so you have to enjoy the opportunities. Not just as a result, but also mentally, because you’re lucky to be in the top XNUMX drivers in the world and among the three or four who can win a race.”
The Spaniard, continuing with his thoughts, added: “My next step is Williams, I have to try to do something in Williams similar to what I did in Ferrari or McLaren. I want to help the team improve. I have the experience and good energy, being still young, to help them progress”.
Sainz, rounding out, said: “I have been good in the past and this is my next target. If Williams want to finish in the top ten, I want to make sure we are a consistent points-scoring team for the next couple of years. If those years go well and I see that we are going in the right direction, I would like to be able to aim for that in the future too.”
