F1 | Russell in Mercedes already in 2021? Wolff rules out this scenario

Sakhir's second consecutive weekend lit up George Russell's star. In fact, the Briton, called by the parent company Mercedes to replace Lewis Hamilton who tested positive for Covid-19, took part in an extraordinary GP which was not his only due to the confusion created in the garage during the various tire changes.

Despite the excellent impression he made, Russell is not destined to be promoted to Brackley next season as many have speculated. In fact, as underlined by Toto Wolff, the Williams standard bearer will remain with the Grove team while the line-up will once again be made up of Hamilton and Bottas. But in this market scenario there is a "small" detail missing: the renewal of the seven-time world champion which is still slow to arrive.

"It will not remain his last attempt to win a race – Wolff declared yesterday at the end of the race – It's just the beginning of a fairy tale that didn't work today. Saying that today a star was born. George is a Mercedes driver but also a contracted Williams driver. Our lineup is Valtteri and Lewis. So I don't see it as a realistic scenario. But I understand that this would be an interesting decision for all of us. Maybe we will in the future".

The Mercedes TP, completing his analysis, then added: “That's why I don't see it as a sad day. This is a day the team learned something. We understand that we can count on George Russell in the future".
