F1 | Ross Brawn on Schumacher: “Michel was a misunderstood character”

Interviewed by the British press at the end of the last Ferrari 1000 Tuscan Grand Prix, the ninth round of this 2020 Formula 1 world championship, Ross Brawn returned to talk about the figure of Michael Schumacher, underlining how the German was quite misunderstood, given that on the track appeared a totally different character than the real one.

“Michael was a rather misunderstood character,” said Ross Brawn. “I don't know if in his mind he liked the image he created of himself, because he was quite intimidating in a lot of ways. But if you knew him personally it was exactly the opposite. Many times I have introduced him to some people who, before meeting him, thought he was despicable and horrible. Subsequently their assessment changed."

“It happened to me so many times because there was Michael, the driver on the track, and there was the version of Michael away from the track,” he continued. “A lot of people who ran against him had a different opinion, but no one I know who ever worked with him ever had a bad word to say about him or a bad opinion because of his integrity.

“He was a very strong member of any team he was a part of and it is a tragedy what happened to him,” he concluded.
