F1 | Ross Brawn: “We will think calmly about when it will be safe to allow fans to return to Grands Prix”

Formula 1 has announced the new calendar of the first eight events of the 2020 season, made necessary following the pandemic which put the Formula 1 world championship on hold even before it started in Australia. It will start in Austria at the beginning of July with a double appointment, but beyond the subsequent six events, at the moment the situation has not yet been outlined, especially with regards to non-European races.

What is clear, however, is that at least in these first rounds of the season, fans will not be allowed access to the circuit, with the event therefore taking place behind closed doors. A reasonable safety measure, both for the public and for the teams themselves. In fact, the teams, the FIA and Formula 1 have agreed to reduce the number of staff in the paddock to a minimum, also leaving out invitations to the numerous guests that we used to see at every Grand Prix. Ross Brawn confirmed in an interview that at the moment bringing fans back to the track is not a priority and that it will be something they will think about very calmly, as they do not want to take a hasty step: “We are in no hurry. Some European race organizers are optimistic about this, but at the moment we still have no plans regarding the fans. What is important is that we can race in a safe environment. We travel around the world and simply cannot afford to have issues that would not allow us to travel between countries. We will think about it calmly. We don't want to take a step like this and then have to go back", commented Brawn in an interview with La Derniere Heure -. “The fact that we can hold the races behind closed doors is essential for us to start the season. Obviously it's not ideal for any sport, but it's better to have races without fans than to have no races at all.”
