F1 | Rosberg TV commentator instead of Lauda
Shock at RAI: television rights for Formula 1 lost
The former world champion of Mercedes, will take the place of Niki Lauda on German TV RTL, as a TV commentator.
It was also confirmed that, despite a period of uncertainty, RTL has retained the Formula 1 television rights for the next three years.
“This is really good news for us and our viewers”, commented the director of RTL, Frank Hoffman.
With the announcement of Niki Lauda's departure, the role of commentator will most likely be taken by Nico Rosberg, even if the contract has not yet been signed.
“Before Niki there was my father -commented the German- so I continue the family tradition".
Meanwhile, Italian Formula 1 fans learned yesterday that RAI will no longer have television rights, therefore the only broadcaster will be SKY.
Regarding pay TV, Alain Prost commented: “In France, we had eight million fans who followed TF1, now on Canal Plus they don't even reach 750. This is what happens when you move to Pay TV”.
