F1 | Rosberg: “Alonso will be on the podium this year”

The world champion believes in a clear improvement of the McLaren-Honda team

F1 | Rosberg: “Alonso will be on the podium this year”

Nico Rosberg is convinced of this: Fernando Alonso will be able to fight for more important goals in 2017. The world champion tried to imagine what the balance of next season will be with more than one eye on the team McLaren-Honda.

“Fernando will be on the podium or very close to it this year – he told the Spanish newspaper Diario Sport – he has a great chance with the new regulations, but we will have to wait, because the same thing could happen with other teams and other drivers”.

The Japanese will have to make the most of this opportunity: “I believe that McLaren will be able to significantly improve its performance. I don't expect them to dominate, but they will have a new opportunity and they will definitely be able to take advantage of it."

On a general level, the German has ruled out a change at the top, with Mercedes once again in front of everyone: “I believe it won't change. Mercedes is a great team that works and with a well-oiled machine."

On his rivals, the world champion downplayed the chances of the Ferrari: “Maybe they will improve, but I don't see them leading the championship. I think the main danger for Mercedes will come from Red Bull. The marriage between Adrian Newey and the new rules has always worked extraordinarily well over the last 20 years."
