Cyril Abiteboul he is very focused and determined: the 2018 it will have to be the year of the decisive turning point for the Renault. The challenge, in fact, is to get to fight with the top teams - Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull first of all - despite the fact that the French team does not have the skills and resources of the greats of the circus. This lack, this handicap, should not represent a weakness for Renault which, on the contrary, wants to prove itself capable of making great steps forward despite the difficulties compared to its rivals.

The team leader is confident that Renault can maintain its upward trend, after the recovery from Lotus and the uphill journey culminating with the arrival of Carlos Sainz: “The challenge I will present to our team is to be able to compete with the best teams in the medium term, with 85% of their capabilities and resources“, Abiteboul told the US portal Motorsport.com. Abiteboul refers not only to the budget, but also to the number of employees: “I also try to do what others do, but in a more efficient way, which has always been Renault's philosophy in Formula 1. I try to find what which is sustainable in the medium to long term, without compromising our chances of fighting for championships in 2020 or 2021,” he continued.

One of the luxury reinforcements that Renault Sport has for the current season is the engineer Marcin Budkowski, who will join the team in early April. Budkowski comes from the FIA, where until last year he was responsible for the technical area. His appointment has generated controversy as he is thought to be in possession of sensitive information linked to the other teams in the circus.
