F1 | Renault Sport Academy, 2020 line-up announced

Yesterday Renault announced the line-up of its Academy for 2020. Alongside Max Fewtrell, Christian Lundgaard, Guanyu Zhou e Hi Collett they added Oscar Piastri and Hadrien David.

Piastri, an 18-year-old Australian, won the Formula Renault Eurocup last year, while David, French born in 2004 he won the transalpine Formula 4 championship also in 2019. As for the overseas driver, his adventure will begin in Formula 3 with the PREMA team, joining Fewtrell, who will race with the Hitech team (last year at ART). The very young David will instead be on track with MP Motorsport in the Formula Renault Eurocup, challenging the 17-year-old Brazilian Collet.

Going up the category, we will find Zhou in Formula 2 with UNI-Virtuosi: the 20-year-old Chinese will try to improve the seventh position achieved last year in his debut season, and will be joined by the Dane Lundgaard, making his debut in the cadet competition with the ART Grand Prix, after having impressed well in Formula 3 in 2019, in addition to the debut with the Trident in Abu Dhabi in Formula 2 in the last round of the season.

All the Renault Academy drivers will also work closely with the Formula 1 team, taking part in various simulation sessions at the Enstone headquarters, in what will be the French team's normal training and development process for its very young players talents.

“It's the strongest line-up of the last four years – admitted Mia Sharizman, director of the Renault Sport Academy. There is the right balance between experienced and novice riders, trying to compete for titles in all the junior championships in which we are involved. We are getting closer to our goal: to have an Academy driver in Formula 1. We remain confident, it will have to be a successful year for this to happen. We already know what Max and Christian are capable of, they have been with us for four years, and we are happy with how Zhou and Caio have managed to compete during their first season in the Academy. It's also nice to have two very talented riders like Oscar and Hadrien at our disposal, I'm sure that all the riders will push hard to achieve their respective goals."

“Our Academy grows and strengthens every year – said Cyril Abiteboul, Renault team principal. We want to achieve victories in 2020. The aim of this academy, founded in 2016, is to bring a driver into Formula 1, and with the talent available this year we are confident we can achieve what we want in the shortest possible time . I am very proud of our program, and also that there is support for our French riders. I am proud of what our Academy has done so far, we want to achieve success on and off the track."
