F1 | Renault, Ricciardo and Ocon: “Difficult weekend, but we can improve”

Mixed feelings inside the Renault garage, where Daniel Ricciardo can still keep a smile: the Australian started in eleventh position and climbed up to eighth. There is less to smile about, however, on Esteban Ocon's pit side: the Frenchman started from the fourteenth spot on the grid and finished the race in the same position.

"It was a confusing race, but I'm happy with the result. I gave it my all and I think it couldn't have gone any better – explained Daniel Ricciardo – our start was good, and many around us immediately put on dry tires. We had a good pace on the mediums and got close to the top 6 towards the end. We couldn't do better than eighth place. I also finished in eighth place in the Styrian Grand Prix, and so did Esteban in the inaugural race. It's not bad, but I think we will have a little more speed than in the first three races. We're not far from the top 6, we're getting closer, and the points will come".

A little more negative, however, Esteban Ocon: “It was a difficult weekend, right from the start. We're not happy, obviously. We are disappointed and we can only learn from our mistakes and work hard, to be strong already and move forward, the whole team. Everything happened on the track, but we weren't able to make any progress in either the dry or the wet. We will have to look back at the match and try not to repeat results like these. The first two races went much better, but we didn't improve enough to be ready here in Hungary".
