Carlos Sainz Sr. foresees a progression in the child's career. The 55-year-old Spaniard, fresh from the success of the Dakar Rally, told the news agency EFE the pilot's state of mind Renault, ready to face his first full season with the transalpine team: “He is preparing for the season with a lot of enthusiasm. Testing starts next week, the Renault was presented this week: he is very excited, as are those who are with him. From what he says, a step forward will certainly be taken".

Interviewed by the French newspaper The Team, Carlos Sainz Jr confirmed what his father said: “I have the impression of building a team around me. We have a good chance of doing great things together, the goal is to get closer to the best teams, but it's impossible to say exactly where we will be. We don't think so much in terms of championship position, but rather on performance.".

Finally, dad Sainz explained the former Toro Rosso's choice to open the Monte Carlo Rally: “It wasn't a marketing act. He was driving a car on the route just to know the stage”.
