F1 | Renault, Daniel Ricciardo: “The objective is to overtake the McLarens”

Just a year ago Daniel Ricciardo was preparing to take pole position at the Mexican Grand Prix, only to then park his Red Bull due to a problem with the Renault power unit.

This year, the Australian is instead driving the official French team and, after the positive result in Japan with both cars scoring points, he hopes together with teammate Nico Hulkenberg to repeat the result.

"I love going to Mexico, it's an amazing place. The atmosphere in the paddock is full of life and quite vibrant. Last year's pole position was quite memorable, an emotional ride. We put it all together in the end, it was special"Declared theHoney badger ahead of the Mexican weekend, recalling last year's performance.

"This year we just need to get into Q3 and be first in the mid-table. We've had some disappointing results lately, so we deserved the points in Japan. We want to continue to be in the top 10 in Mexico too. The objective is to overtake McLaren in the standings, but also in terms of performance".

Nico Hulkenberg, still looking for a job for 2020, is determined to do well and show off once again, despite being aware of the difficulties of the Mexico City circuit.

"Mexico has a truly special atmosphere. The circuit is quite old with a lot of history and you feel it all when you are there: it's small, but complicated. It is located at a high altitude and this changes the dynamics of the racing. The car has less downforce, much less drag, so we are fast on the straights, but then under braking the car seems to have much less grip. It's a truly unique sensation and one you have to get used to. It is important to do well again in Mexico, to confirm ourselves in the points. We are approaching the end of the season and every detail makes a difference".
