F1 | Renault closes its doors to Alonso

The future of Fernando Alonso it remains a taboo. The two-time world champion has not yet resolved his reservations regarding 2018, even if all the evidence now points to his remaining in McLaren. To support this almost obvious scenario, are the statements of Cyril Abiteboul, general manager of the Renault, which closed the doors to a possible return of Nando to the French team: “First of all, he is part of a great team that I believe is at the center of a series of considerations regarding its future strategies” – explained Abiteboul. “Secondly, I think he obviously has to look at his timing and those of the other teams. Things have to be compatible so that a successful pairing can be created. And because it was so in the past, it does not mean that it will be so in the future".

The risk, Abiteboul admits, would be to see a dissatisfied Alonso at Renault: “I believe that Fernando has the urgency to return to fight to win championships. It would take us too long to guarantee him a car capable of winning and clearly the last thing I would like to see is a frustrated Alonso in Renault".
