F1 | Renault, Abiteboul: “Closest fifth place in the constructors' standings”

Cyril Abiteboul, CEO of Renault, rings the charge ahead of the season finale. The weekend of Singapore allowed the French company to overcome the Haas in the constructors' championship and to grab seventh place: all thanks to the man you don't expect, that Jolyon Palmer already torpedoed with a view to 2018. “The race was exciting and action-packed, with rain and lots of safety cars, as often happens in Singapore” – said Abiteboul.

There is no shortage of praise for the English driver for his unexpected 6th place in Marina Bay: “Jolyon was able to score points for the first time this season and achieve his best career result in Formula 1. Despite the circumstances, he led a race without errors, on a night when doing so would have been easy. He was able to help the team regarding the constructors' championship. We are now in seventh place and we are closer to reaching our goal, or the fifth position”. The Williams, fifth in the standings, is 17 points away: “The latest circuits are suitable for our car. Our aim – concluded Abiteboul – remains unchanged".
