F1 | Renault, Abiteboul: “Ready to introduce a new generation of ERS”

In a short interview with motorsport.com.uk, Cyril Abiteboul spoke about the changes that Renault is implementing on the new power unit that will take to the track from the next tests in Barcelona. The current head of Renault Sport explained that in the Viry Chatillion factory they are working on some modifications to the combustion chamber of the thermal unit and that every customer will be able to count on a new generation of ERS (Energy Recovery System). The energy recovery system has always been a sore point for the French engineer and the development work carried out during the winter in collaboration with Red Bull should have solved all the reliability problems that electric motors suffered even at low mileages .

Here are the words of Cyril Abiteboul: “This year we want to confirm the steps forward made during last season in terms of reliability. Last year was really fantastic, but we can't get complacent. We carried out our winter development along these lines, modifying several parts of our unit to catch up with Mercedes. The power unit will have a new architecture and there will be some innovations regarding combustion. The highlight, however, will be a new generation of ERS which will be brought to the track as early as the next winter tests. We have done a good job and we are ready to give our best."
