F1 | Hulkenberg: “Third driver in Red Bull? It was never an option."

Interviewed by Servus TV, Nico Hulkenberg he told a couple of background stories related to the negotiations with the Red Bull for the 2021 season, highlighting how the Austrian team has never offered the German the possibility of becoming third driver after the choice of Sergio Perez.

As stated by "Hulk“, the discussions with the four-time world champion team ended as soon as Christian horner ed Helmut Marko they chose to focus on the former Mexican Racing Point.

“Obviously I would have liked to drive for Red Bull, there's no denying that,” said the German. “Unfortunately, however, it didn't go that way. In the end it was their decision."

On a possible role as third driver he added: “It was never an option. The only discussions concerned the officer's seat and as we well know it was chosen in the end Czech. For the future, I believe it is important to remain focused on the objective, also with a view to 2022. I have not given up on Formula 1 and I am ready to seize every opportunity that comes along my path towards next year."
