F1 | Red Bull, Verstappen: “Ferrari will be very strong in Suzuka”

Max Verstappen returns to the circuit that saw him make his Formula 1 debut in 2014 with Toro Rosso: the Dutch driver took to the track at Suzuka at just 17 years old in free practice for that Grand Prix which we all unfortunately remember for what happened to Jules Bianchi. But returning to the present day, Max wants to do well at one of his favorite tracks, and this year with the Honda engine powering his Red Bull, the will to win in Japan is even stronger.

“I can't wait to return to Suzuka, it's a special place for me – Verstappen said. I made my Formula 1 debut there in a free practice session, I had just turned 17, it's a memory I will never forget: I achieved good results, getting on the podium in second and third place, but I never won, so I'd like to take this further step. It's fun to drive on this circuit, I like it a lot and I also love Suzuka in general. The track is historic, narrow and fast, so it is important to use the entire track: you have to find the right balance and have good mileage in turns 3, 4, 5 and 6, because if you make a mistake in one, you will be damaged in the following ones. Ferrari in Japan will be very strong, having a lot of power on the straights, but our car is fast in corners, so hopefully we can gain some time in those areas. The Japanese fans are very passionate about the sport and it's always great to feel their support, but this year's Grand Prix will be even more special as Honda is at home. We have achieved excellent results with the Japanese engine this year, and we will try to provide the best performance in Suzuka too, but it will not be easy."
