F1 | Red Bull, Verstappen: “With a Mercedes engine the opponents would never have seen us”

A hypothetical pairing Red Bull-Mercedes, second Max Verstappen, would have defeated the competition of recent years. The Dutch pilot, speaking to Motorsport, did not miss the opportunity to launch yet another jab at Renault, current supplier of the Anglo-Austrian team, fantasizing about an unlikely partnership with the Stuttgart company: “I believe that if our car had been equipped with a Mercedes engine, our opponents would never have seen us. Our Power Unit is not stable compared to those of Mercedes and Ferrari: obviously this is due to numerous elements, otherwise I am sure they would have solved this problem a long time ago".

After having monopolized Formula 1 from 2010 to 2013, by virtue of the successes achieved Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull has experienced a clear decline with the advent of hybrid engines, attributable, in particular, to the problems encountered by the Renault engine. At the end of 2018, the contract that binds the Milton Keynes team and the French company will expire: unless there is an unlikely renewal, Red Bull could embrace the cause of Honda, which this year will be the supplier of the Toro Rosso junior team. With a view to 2021, with the introduction of the new engine regulations, the hypothesis remains alive Aston Martin, whose return to Formula 1 is more than just a guess.
