F1 | Red Bull, Verstappen attacks Renault: “New engine in 2019? It's always the same story"

Interviewed by the press yesterday, Max Verstappen returned to the recent controversy with Cyril Aabiteboul regarding the performance of the Renault power unit, underlining how the French engineer has been making the same promises for four years now, only to then always accuse the same delay from Mercedes and Ferrari. An attack that confirms the great state of tension between Red Bull, a team that will change supplier in 2019, and the transalpine engine manufacturer.

Here are the words of Max Verstappen: “I would really like to see this power unit for 2019. Four years ago they designed a completely new engine and the same thing has been said in the last two seasons. It's always the same song. In any case I don't care and I'm not looking at what Renault does at all. Personally I can't wait to face this new challenge with Honda."

On the 2019 regulations he added: “The new regulations might help, but next year we could have the same downforce levels as this year. I think realistically the benefit will be quite limited. The cars will be a bit ugly, but maybe the design will be fixed before next season."
