F1 | Red Bull, Sergio Perez: “We put the slicks on too late”

Sergio Perez is another of the victims of the progression of the track: the Red Bull wall delayed the call to the pits for the Mexican, who found himself, in Q3, returning to the track on dry tires with just a few minutes left on the clock . The only remaining Red Bull returns to the track with only one warm-up lap available, evidently not enough to make the soft compound work properly on the still damp Sochi track. In the end Checo was only ninth: a shame, considering the good performance of the RB16B in the wet in the first two qualifying sessions.

"Things looked really promising and we did very well in Q1 and Q2. But the weather conditions changed, and so did the track, timing is important and in hindsight we could have used the slick compound a lap earlier – explained the Mexican – as we know, anything can always happen in the race and we take the positives from today's session, the car was really good in the wet. We look at the race with positivity, the objective is to make a good start and then do the best race possible".
