F1 | Red Bull, listen to Verstappen: “We will be among the best straight away”

In recent seasons, Red Bull has always had difficulties in the first races, then managing to find the right path from mid-championship onwards. All this has done nothing but favor their opponents (Mercedes mainly), who have always managed to gain full or almost full spoils in the first few months. This time the Austrian team, also thanks to an excellent 2019, wants to start well and immediately undermine Hamilton & Co, as also declared by Verstappen, fresh from renewal.

“Of course in Formula 1 a lot depends on the car, so as to be able to put more pressure on those in the lead – said Verstappen. If you're not breathing down your opponents' necks, you might as well not drive at 100% so as not to make mistakes, or allow one in 21/22 races. So if you can stay within two tenths, you can increase the push towards the leader! I'd like to start with that gap: I can't wait, because I know our potential when everything goes well, but even when we're under pressure we work great, we're a very strong team, even compared to others, and I'm sure we'll be among the best right away."

Verstappen renewed his contract with Red Bull until 2022, believing in the project started last year with Honda, and the fruits have already been seen during the season that ended a few months ago: “I never wanted to rush everything, there was no need: I think everything happened very quickly and calmly. Last year I didn't think about anything, just running, then everything was resolved during the winter. It's positive, because this way all doubts have been removed, there are no more question marks, because if you start a season with your contract expiring, at a certain point some embarrassment could arise, I didn't want any of this. I feel good here, there are good people in the team and I see a hunger for victories and battles!".
