F1 | Red Bull, Ricciardo: “If the situation remains like this, there could be a six-way fight for pole”

Extremely positive day for Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo. In Mexico City the Milton Keynes team dictated the pace in both FP1 and FP2, with the Australian driver following teammate Max Verstappen in both sessions, closing a gap of 483 and 153 thousandths respectively.

“Our car ran very well with little fuel on board in both sessions, which should put us in a good position for qualifying, but I don't want to be naive as I'm sure Mercedes and Ferrari will jump out and give us a boost Tomorrow" – he declared to Ricciardo after free practice. “If the situation remains like this, there could be a close six-way fight for pole, it would be very exciting for everyone.”

“Tomorrow I want to work more on our race pace and high fuel loads, because we were not so competitive in that circumstance” – he continued. “It seems like with the altitude here everyone's power levels are closer. We'll see tomorrow once everyone gets into qualifying mode, but today On paper we're in good shape. The key in qualifying will be to get a clean lap as the circuit is still quite slippery and it is easy to make small mistakes. The hypersoft has a lot of graining, which is quite nice, as most of the races this season have been on one stop, so maybe we'll have two this weekend.”.
