F1 | Red Bull, Perez admits: "Worried about the drop in performance, not about the championship"

Sergio Perez crosses the finish line dl Canadian Grand Prix in sixth position. The Mexican, for the first time in a row, had failed to enter the top ten in qualifying, and had to build his race from twelfth position. After an initial struggle with Sainz, Checo manages to move up the rankings with the hard compound, which he maintains for thirty-seven laps. His Red Bull has a better fighting chance with the medium tire, which will take Perez to the finish line, but both Ferrari they surprise their opponents by extending the first stint, also on a single stop. Perez can't even get close to Sainz's exhausts and therefore pits on the last lap only to snatch the fastest lap from Lewis Hamilton.

“Today's race surprised me, we didn't have the pace. I seemed to be doing well on the hard tires at the start, but after the Safety Car I was no longer able to find grip, and the situation didn't change on the mediums. It's important to take some time to understand what happened this weekend because in the race, in particular, the pace was really poor and we need to solve the problem. I have confidence in myself and I know what I can do, but today it didn't go well – admitted Perez – I'm more worried about my drop in performance than about my position in the championship. There are never moments with zero pressure, it was a difficult moment, but I'm here to race and I need to get back to the top at the next races. Let's look at the good things: we achieved our 100th victory, it's great for the team, I'm very happy for them. Max did an incredible job, not only today, but throughout the entire season."
