F1 | Red Bull: offer to Alonso for Gasly's place?
The Spaniard reiterated his desire not to return to Formula 1
According to what was reported by "Mundo Deportivo", the Austrian team, after the early dismissal of Pierre Gasly, would have (the conditional is a must since there are no confirmations/denials from those directly involved, ed.) called the two-time champion of world to replace French. The answer, however, was a categorical "no".
“It wasn't Fernando who approached Red Bull, but it was the team, led by Chris Horner, who was interested in the driver”, we read in the source.
The two-time world champion justified his choice to retire from Formula 1 by declaring that he no longer has motivation and that he no longer recognizes himself in today's sport.
But this was not the first contact with Red Bull. Adrian Newey had declared that there had been an approach in 2007 but it never came to fruition.
