F1 | Red Bull, Marko surprisingly: "If the partnership with Honda doesn't work, we will leave Formula 1"

The two-year period 2019-2020 will be decisive for the fate of Red Bull. As revealed by Helmut Marko, if the motorsport partnership with Honda proves to be a failure, the Anglo-Austrian team would be ready to pack its bags and abandon the Circus: “We are happy with the great collaboration with Honda for the next few years, but if for any reason this partnership does not work as expected, Red Bull will leave Formula 1.” – said the Red Bull consultant to Sportweek.

Marko also revealed how Honda, after the disappointing three years alongside McLaren, was one step away from saying goodbye to Formula 1. Only the agreement with Toro Rosso averted a scenario of this type: "Up to this point, the Toro Rosso-Honda collaboration has worked very well." – he continued. “After the McLaren disaster, at the end of 2017, Honda was close to saying goodbye to Formula 1. Through intense conversations we really had to convince the Japanese that they could start again with us”.
