F1 | Red Bull, Horner: “We are considering postponing the introduction of the new regulations to 2023”

Behind the scenes, we are working hard to understand what is the best path to follow to allow the teams to get through this period of crisis and focus on maintaining a stable budget, especially for the smaller teams. For this reason, together with the Federation, it was decided to postpone the introduction of the new generation of cars by a year, in order to contain costs: therefore also in 2021, the season in which the new single-seaters were originally supposed to be seen, the teams will decrease on the track with cars that will follow the regulations currently in force, albeit with some modifications.

In order to maintain costs, in fact, it was decided to freeze the development of some parts of the car, such as the monocoque: “We are freezing the development of some parts of the car. This has already been decided regarding the monocoque, we are also talking about the front suspension, parts of the wheels and what is associated, some elements of the gearbox, probably 60% of the car, leaving aside the aerodynamics, will be frozen for this and next year,” revealed Red Bull team principal Chris Horner.

There are many ideas on the table, including that of further delaying the introduction of the new regulations, postponing them to 2023: “We are also thinking of delaying the introduction of the new regulations for a further year. There seems to be an agreement, but it has to be signed by the FIA, in order to move the development costs in the 2022 season to 2023,” Horner added in an interview with the BBC.
