The Red Bull team principal has ruled out that Verstappen will be penalized to favor Ricciardo

F1 | Red Bull, Horner: “We will not give team orders”

Max Verstappen he can sleep peacefully: at least for now he won't be subjected to any team orders to lend a hand to Daniel Ricciardo. This is the thought of the main Red Bull team, Christian horner, aware that the team's objectives at the moment are very different.

In the last races Ricciardo he managed to bring home five consecutive podiums, placing himself in fourth place in the drivers' championship, 64 points behind leader Sebastian Vettel. The Dutch driver, however, was much worse, recently plagued by bad luck and technical problems which have relegated him 68 points behind his teammate and three consecutive retirements in his last three outings.

Hence the possibility, feared by many, that Red Bull may sacrifice his performances to favor Ricciardo's chase for the title.

As reported by Planet F1, the team doesn't think so: “We're not thinking about the championship – said Horner – we're trying to improve the car's performance race after race. We don't consider ourselves title contenders at this time. We want to compete on all circuits and do everything we can to close the gap to the leaders."

A situation which therefore will not change the hierarchies on the track and will not lead the team to make decisions of any kind: "If Ricciardo were at 15 or 20 points it would be a different story but at this moment, with 64 points halfway through the season, you have to be a great optimist to give team orders."
