F1 | Red Bull, Horner: “We didn't choose Perez for his sponsors”
The team principal spoke about Checo's popularity
Red Bull chose Sergio Perez exclusively for his competitiveness and not for the sponsors linked to the Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim, who has always supported Perez's career. This was stated by Chris Horner, team principal of Milton Keynes, who returned to talk about the hiring of the Mexican driver and his great popularity in Mexico and throughout Latin America.
In fact, Horner stated that following the announcement, Red Bull has seen an enormous growth in interest in itself in Mexico and other South American countries and that in the coming months they will understand the impact of Checo's popularity on the team.
“Red Bull doesn't need sponsors to survive - Horner explained to the Dutch at Racingnews365 - Certainly the interest that his announcement aroused was the greatest we have ever encountered; he is a very popular driver in Latin America, we have seen a huge growth in traffic to our platforms from those countries, it is great news for F1 to be so popular everywhere. We will certainly understand the impact that Perez's popularity in Mexico will have on us in the coming months."
