F1 | Red Bull, Horner: “Gasly is a logical choice for post-Sainz”
"Toro Rosso's goal is to develop young talents like Verstappen, Ricciardo and Vettel"
The farewell of Sainz, direction Renault, left a hole in the staff of the Toro Rosso. The Faenza team has not yet made the name of the Spaniard's successor official, even if all the clues point to Pierre Gasly, a Red Bull-owned driver currently competing in the Japanese champion of Super Formula, in which he is competing for the title. Christian horner, team principal of Red Bull, confirmed the desire of the Italian team to continue to focus on the new talents of the automotive scene: “Carlos moving to Renault leaves an empty space, Toro Rosso's objective is to develop young talents. Successful drivers like Carlos Sainz, like Max Verstappen, like Daniel Ricciardo and like Sebastian Hag".
Horner then stated that the final decision, although already addressed, has not yet been made: “Pierre Gasly is the reigning GP2 champion and is winning Super Formula races in Japan, so it would be a logical choice. But nothing is confirmed".
