The start of the season was not easy for Max Verstappen, often the protagonist of dull performances, accidents and controversies that seem to have led him into a negative tunnel from which it is difficult to escape. The good performance and the podium achieved in the Canadian Grand Prix, according to Chris Horner, could be a turning point for the season of the young Dutch driver, who undoubtedly needs to make a change of pace to continue progressing before really aiming for the world title .

Interviewed by the Formula 1 website, the Red Bull team principal was keen to defend his driver, underlining how a negative period can happen to anyone, in any sport: “He did an excellent job in Canada. He is an emotional talent. In every sport there is a period in which things don't go as well for the athlete as for others" – said Horner -. “And this was clear for everyone to see, a public thing. Let's hope that luck helps him now and that it can be a turning point for him. In Canada he achieved excellent performances throughout the weekend.

The absence in the pits of Jos Verstappen, the father of the young Red Bull driver, has caused quite a stir in the paddock, considered by many to be a presence that is slowly becoming unwelcome in the pit of the Anglo-Austrian team. Speaking about it, Horner admitted that the choice was made jointly, although at the moment it has not yet been planned whether to propose this new approach in the future: “Now he has a slightly different approach, he is on his own. I think it's the first race where he doesn't have people doing things themselves without people around, it's definitely something different. It is impossible to say whether he contributed or not. He is still maturing as a driver, continuing to gain experience. It's something that was discussed with him, but it's also something between him and the people who usually hang out with him. At the moment we have no intention of continuing with this new approach, it was something we wanted to try for the Canadian weekend. Max was completely immersed in the team's work over the weekend, all credit goes to him for the excellent performance" concluded the Red Bull team principal.
