F1 | Red Bull, Horner contradicts Marko: “Why shouldn't we be on par with the others?”
The team principal is confident in the world championship chances of the Anglo-Austrian team
Chris horner dissociates from Helmut Marko and believes in the 2018 title. The Red Bull consultant, in recent days, had declared: “I don't think we are in a situation where we can compete for the championship”, taking into account the possibility that Mercedes produces an even stronger engine. Interviewed by Speed Week, Horner revived the hopes of the Anglo-Austrian team: “If we learned the lessons of last year and if reliability improves, then I see no reason why we shouldn't be equal".
Furthermore, the Red Bull team principal explained how only "a matter of time" separates Max Verstappen from his first world title: “Sebastian Vettel won four titles for us before he was 30. Lewis has won four and is only 32 years old. For me, Max is a champion: You can see which drivers are exceptional and Max is certainly one of them."
In 2018, Red Bull will also have to take into account a new, fierce rival: the McLaren, which just like the Milton Keynes team, will be equipped with a Renault engine. “McLaren is a great team and we can't wait to race against them" – said Horner. “We made great progress especially in the second half of last season and Let's hope we have the same momentum in 2018. The rules are more or less the same, so there are many lessons we can learn from 2017 for the development of our new car.”.
