F1 | Red Bull, Horner: “There is disappointment at having missed pole position”

It could have been a good qualifying for Red Bull in Istanbul. With Mercedes' great difficulties, the Austrian team was the main candidate not only for pole position, but also for conquering the entire front row. Nothing could be more wrong: Racing Point decided to mess with Verstappen & Co, and Lance Stroll won the first pole of his career, right in front of the Dutchman. The second row is occupied by their respective teammates, with Perez ahead of Albon. In short, satisfaction is not at home at Red Bull after qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix.

“The two drivers drove very well in treacherous conditions, with Max dominating in Q1 and Q2 and the start of Q3 – said Chris Horner, Red Bull team principal. At the end we were right in the crossover with the intermediates and we stopped both cars: unfortunately Max lost time behind Kimi on the first lap and wasn't able to warm up the tires well, we struggled to find the right operating temperature both with him and with Alex. The last lap looked good for pole, but he lost control in turn 7 which cost him six tenths. The front row is still a good position, even if the disappointment is understandable. Alex looked competitive this weekend, he put in a clean lap and fourth position is his best since he started racing in Formula 1. Well done to Racing Point for using the intermediates well in Q3. We're not sure what will happen in the race, but this starting grid should make the race very interesting, both Max and Alex are fighting for something important."
