F1 | Red Bull, great comeback for Verstappen: "We fitted the intermediate tires at the right time"

Super comeback by Max Verstappen, who climbs from last to second position. The Dutchman's race was absolutely not easy: Mercedes replaced some components on Bottas' PU, sending the Finn to seventeenth position ready to stop the Red Bull driver's climb. But it's a matter of a few laps before Max overtakes him and starts chasing the points zone. Hard to medium strategy, Verstappen manages to climb up to seventh position, fighting with Charles Leclerc's Ferrari, but it is the rain that upsets the ranking: the Dutchman returns to the pits, while Norris and Hamilton continue to resist in front, and in the pit-stop chaos in the now incessant rain, Verstappen incredibly climbs up to second position. Limited damage, despite Lewis Hamilton's victory: the Englishman now only has a two-point lead in the drivers' standings.

"Wow, we'll get this result! Obviously starting last and finishing second is great, when I woke up this morning I certainly wasn't expecting a result like that – admitted Max – despite the heavy penalty we didn't lose that many points, the team did a great job. The call to put on the intermediates was crucial, the track was really slippery and our timing was perfect, we came back at the right time. A lot can happen when you start from the back, especially on the first lap when everyone is fighting, but we stayed out of trouble, did our part and managed the race as best we could. The race wasn't easy, overtaking was complicated and if you found yourself stuck the tires were damaged immediately, but in the end the rain helped you make the last leap".
