F1 | Red Bull, Adrian Newey: “PU Renault increasingly competitive”
The technical director of Milton Keynes has great confidence in the work of the transalpine engineer
Speaking atAutosport International Show, Adrian Newey spoke, among others, about the power unit that will equip the highly anticipated Red Bull RB13, or the Renault engine renamed TAG-Heuer. The English technical director places great trust in the work of the French engineer, confident that the transalpine power unit will soon reach the same level as the hybrid V6s of Mercedes and Ferrari.
“I think Renault has taken the right direction. Two years ago we were in a bad situation, with the engineer having made no progress in the winter - the words of Adrian Newey - But since last year things have changed. In 2016 the French engine was behind Mercedes and Ferrari, but the gap has gradually decreased. This winter they worked very hard. I took a look at the data and I can say that important progress has been made. All that remains is to see what our rivals will do."
