F1 | Ralf Schumacher: “Mercedes favorite in Portimao”

Interviewed by Sky Sport DE, Ralf Schumacher spoke about the challenge between Red Bull and Mercedes on the Portimao track, highlighting how the W12 could prove extremely competitive among the many ups and downs of the Algarve.

According to the former Jordan and Toyota driver, the characteristics of the world champion car should adapt well to those of the Portuguese layout, an aspect which on paper could help Lewis Hamilton in the direct comparison with his rival for the title, Max Verstappen.

As regards third place in the constructors' championship, however, Ralf Schumacher is ready to bet on McLaren and Landò Norris, given that the latter showed a great feeling with the car in the Sakhir and Imola events.

"I believe that in Portimao it will be a close challenge again between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen." said the German. “At the same time, however, I believe that Mercedes could prove more competitive on this type of circuit."

On the fight for third place in the constructors' championship he added: “I have no doubt that McLaren is the clear favourite. It is a difficult, fast circuit with many blind spots. On this type of layout it is essential to be comfortable with the car and Norris definitely is. In my opinion he will do well in Portugal."
