F1 – Raikkonen: “Spa is not decisive for my future”

Kimi Raikkonen has denied that his future in Formula 1 and Ferrari is linked to the outcome of this weekend's Belgian GP. According to Niki Lauda, ​​a possible victory for Raikkonen at Spa, his favorite track, would guarantee him reconfirmation in Maranello. But Raikkonen is not of the same opinion.

“As I've said many times before, it's a race like any other,” the 35-year-old told MTV at a karting event in Helsinki.

“A single race won't make the difference one way or the other” he reiterated, “but we hope to have a good weekend and then we'll see”.

According to Raikkonen, however, rumors about his future will soon resume: "The holidays are over, the journalists have to write something."

Raikkonen said he was satisfied with his 2015: “If you compare it to last year, it wasn't that bad. But there were negative races and races with a bit of bad luck. This year the car performed well. Small things can make the difference, for example the tires are probably the most relevant factor."

Raikkonen reiterated that he is not currently thinking about what he will do after F1: “At some point your career ends but it's difficult to say what you will do next. I haven't thought about it yet and I have no plans about it."

Raikkonen said he was happy to have Sebastian Vettel in the team: “It was a change for the better. It's the best team I've been on, compared to other years. He's definitely the nicest teammate I've ever had, which makes things easier for us to talk and share. It helps the team a lot."

And regarding the future, Raikkonen smiled: “For sure the final result will be positive, no matter what it is.”
