F1 | Racing Point protects Stroll: “Lance has great potential”

In a chat given to the newspaper Racer, Otmar Szfanauer defended the performances shown by Lance Stroll during the last season, underlining how the Canadian has not yet shown 100% of his abilities.

According to the Team Principal of the team led by Lawrence Stroll, in fact, the former Williams driver is extremely talented, but has not yet fully understood some details inherent to driving. An important aspect that is currently severely limiting him.

The objective, precisely in this sense, will be to improve over the next few weeks, so as to present himself in Australia in top form.

“I see great potential in Stroll,” said Otmar Szafnauer. “He is an extremely fast racing driver. I personally think we need to teach him the details. He already knows how he drives himself, given that on the pace he is quite close to 'Checo'. That is not the point, but rather the details that exist in Formula 1 and unfortunately we are talking about a process that cannot be completed over the course of a single night."

"It takes time", he continued. “He had a great first year, as he scored some good points for the team. His learning curve is positive, which is why I'm quite certain that he will be able to improve already in 2020."

On the work done by Perez he instead declared: “Sergio did a great job, while Lance was in his first season with us. I consider Checo to be a key member of our team, given that he has been collaborating with us for some time. I know what we're talking about and we have nothing to teach him."
