F1 | Racing Point, Perez: “I want to leave Canada with points”

Difficult qualifying for the British team in the Canadian Grand Prix, with Sergio Perez's sixteenth time and Lance Stroll's eighteenth.

Sergio Perez: “The pace was there to get through to Q2 and beyond. This is the worst feeling you can have as a driver, when you know you could have done much better. I had a lockup at turn ten and lost time. The build-up lap was also difficult, with many cars approaching the final corner, it wasn't ideal. The gaps are small and we thought we had a bigger margin than we had. It was just about getting a good lap and I didn't execute it 100%. A few cents made the difference and it's disappointing to come out of Q1 because I didn't maximize the car's performance, especially knowing how much hard work the whole team has put in to improve the car. We'll see what we can do tomorrow. It will be a demanding race, which will make it difficult to manage the brakes which suffer a lot here. We will not give up; there's still a long way to go and I want to come away from Montreal with some points."

Lance Stroll: “It wasn't an easy day with the engine change having a big impact on the final result. I lost all the laps in final practice and we had to go back to the old engine, which is several tenths lower in terms of performance. The guys and gals in the garage did a great job adapting to the new powertrain in time for qualifying, but I felt we had taken a step backwards going into the session. Without these problems, I'm sure I could have gone further in qualifying. I'm still optimistic: it's my home race and I will give my best. I remember that in 2017 I had a difficult qualifying but I scored my first points. I have to be able to do something similar in the race."
