F1 | Racing Point, Perez: “The shortened weekend will be a real challenge”

The British team is ready to face the Imola Grand Prix, which returns to the Formula 1 calendar after 14 years. The weekend reduced to just two days will be a real challenge for the drivers and these are the impressions given by Racing Point drivers, Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez.

Lance Stroll: "I'm very excited! Not only is Imola such a famous circuit, but we will also have the two-day format which has the potential to really mix things up. I also have some great memories there, so it's a weekend I'm enjoying. It's clearly a very technical and narrow track in some places, I think precision will be very important. It won't be easy, it's a difficult track and will be mentally and physically demanding but overtaking could be a real challenge."

Despite never having competed in Formula 1, Stroll won the Formula 3 European Championship in Imola in 2016:

“It seems like a lifetime ago! There was a lot of champagne that evening. It was so exciting, a huge milestone in my racing career. I worked so hard to win it and this makes the idea of returning to Imola even more special.".

Sergio Perez: "It will definitely be a challenge as with the two-day format, we will only have one free practice session. We worked a lot with the simulator and observed many on-boards, to ensure we come into qualifying and the race as well prepared as possible. I'll try with the PlayStation too! I had fun racing on circuits we didn't expect to visit. Places where we don't have years of data to rely on. It is therefore about maximizing track time and analyzing the limited information we will have from practice, especially on a shortened weekend. I think that so far we have risen to the challenge, and the credit goes entirely to the team, we have fought for points even on new circuits.".

The Mexican has never competed on this circuit but has good memories of always watching the Imola Grand Prix as a child:

"This makes me even more excited to race there. It's such a classic venue and there have been so many memorable races, so hopefully there's another one this weekend! I can't wait!".
