F1 | Racing Point, Perez: “It was a great qualifying”

Sergio Perez will start from fifth position on the starting grid tomorrow. An excellent placing for the Mexican driver, who praised the team for having been able to implement the strategy at the right time. It will be an uphill race for Lance Stroll, sixteenth.

Sergio Perez: “It was a great qualifying, the team did a great job in terms of strategy. We reacted very well and made all the right decisions about when to go out and when not to go out. It was a long session, the track cooled down a lot, but I think we did a good job and managed to get more out of the car. This is a truly unique track, which pushes the driver to the maximum. You have to be at the limit on every lap without making any mistakes and this requires a lot of effort and confidence. It will be a long race, we have some very fast cars around us, but anything can happen in Baku. A single mistake can cost a lot. It's important to stay calm and I think that if we can finish the race we should be able to get important points."

Lance Stroll: “It was a busy day and it's a shame that we went out already in Q1. I did what I could given the limited time yesterday. FP3 was a good session and I continued to build my confidence, but in the end we didn't have enough laps available. I had to stop my first lap due to yellow flags, so I only had one attempt. In the end, the lap wasn't good enough, so all we can do is think about tomorrow. The potential of the car is good, as Sergio showed, and here the race can be very unpredictable. If we get a good strategy and make the most of every opportunity, we can still get a good result, so let's see what happens.".
