While waiting for the season to officially restart in Austria at the beginning of July on the Red Bull Ring track, after Mercedes and Renault, Racing Point has also made its return to the track. On Wednesday, in fact, the team returned to work on the Silverstone circuit for a filming day, i.e. a session of up to 100 km with demo tyres.

This was necessary because the team decided to use the 2020 single-seater, the RP20, unlike the teams that had already held private test sessions, in which however they had preferred to use the 2018 cars, thus avoiding having restrictions in terms of mileage in order to test the new health procedures and social distancing inside the garages, as well as giving the drivers the opportunity to become familiar with the cars again. The new RP20 is a single-seater on which the team is focusing a lot for the 2020 season, thanks to a change in philosophy which should have partially compensated for the weak points of the single-seater from last championship, in particular on high-load circuits: an approach radically opposite to that of previous years and it should therefore not be surprising that the team itself is still trying, as far as possible, to accumulate as much data as possible before the official return to the track.

The choice of Silverstone as the track for the filmin day is not accidental: the team headquarters, in fact, is a short distance from the English circuit, so it proved to be a particularly favorable option also for reducing travel to a minimum. At the wheel of the car was Lance Stroll, who briefly commented after a run: “It's nice to finally be driving again, it hasn't happened in a while. I'm super excited for the first race,” said the Canadian. The team posted a short video online of the No. 18 in action:
