F1 | Prost polemical: “Today's engines are too complicated!”
On the possible aerodynamic modifications he added: "Personally I would remove the diffuser"
In an interview given to the Ouest-France newspaper, Alain Prost commented on the current regulations relating to engines, underlining how these are extremely complex and full of technological details which cause their management and development costs to skyrocket. According to the Frenchman, Liberty Media should intervene precisely in this area for 2021, making them simpler (thus lowering costs) and understandable for fans.
Here are the words of Alain Prost: “The engine rules are too complicated. Each change involves enormous additional costs, but without real results in terms of performance. The thrusters should be more powerful and with more fuel available. Technically it should be simpler, leaving room for possible surprises. Furthermore, there should be a differentiating factor between one and the other given that for some years now, performance has been determined by aerodynamics. I would like to see a greater balance."
Prost continued by talking about aerodynamics: “Personally I would have removed the diffuser. In my time we had different concepts that led us to have great performances, but we followed each other without problems. We need much simpler cars from an aerodynamic point of view."
“More than a year we had different turbochargers, V8, V10, V12, Michelin, Goodyear and Pirelli. So much variety that made everything fascinating. We cannot go back to the past because it is very complicated to have different technologies, but it is a balance of technology that makes the difference"he concluded.
