F1 | Pirelli, Isola: “Strategy is a central element in the race”

Mario Isola, head of F1 and Car Racing, spoke about the performance of Pirelli tires in the Shanghai Grand Prix. Most teams opted for the two-stop strategy:

“The lower temperatures compared to yesterday affected the performance of the hard C2, leading the leading drivers to choose the medium tires to seek extra performance in the last stint. Strategy was a central element in the race, with the top teams paying attention to the tactics of their direct rivals to respond promptly to undercut attempts. For example, the two Mercedes drivers stopped on the same lap. Two stops for most of the drivers, but there was no shortage of interesting one- and three-stop strategies: Gasly stopped three times, exploiting the potential of the C4 soft compound in the final stint, to set the fastest lap in the race. Congratulations to Alex Albon, who finished 10th after a difficult Saturday, scoring one point."
