F1 | Pirelli, Isola: “Very close qualifying”

Lewis Hamilton on Mercedes wins pole position in the Canadian Grand Prix and sets a new record on the Montreal circuit with P Zero Purple ultrasoft. Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen qualified second and fourth: the two Ferrari drivers passed Q1 using only supersoft tyres, which are almost a second per lap slower than the ultrasofts. Hot and dry environmental conditions in qualifying, with the drivers using only ultrasoft tires from Q2 onwards. It is expected that the majority of drivers will opt for a single stop in the race. The evolution of the track continued during qualifying.

MARIO ISOLA – CAR RACING MANAGER
“Today the new record of the Montreal circuit was set, which improves last year's pole position by more than 1,3 seconds: a notable difference, achieved above all thanks to the traction qualities, given that this circuit has few corners. It was a very close session, with times close as seen in FP3. The challenge in Montreal consists in making the front and rear tires work correctly and simultaneously, because these are normally the most used. On this circuit, pole position does not guarantee a very significant advantage, so several prospects remain open for the race.”
