Mario Isola on the Sakhir track: "It's important to have good traction"

F1 | Pirelli, the Bahrain GP from a tire point of view

The same three compounds as the Chinese Grand Prix will take to the track in Bahrain. Sakhir is a circuit that requires a lot of traction and hosts the first night race of the year, with start and finish under artificial lights. Consequently, the behavior of the tires and the evolution of the track are different than what usually happens in afternoon races. Last year the winning strategy was three stops, with the same compounds nominated this year too

THE THREE COMPOUNDS NAMED

- Half
– Soft
– Super Soft

THE CIRCUIT FROM THE TIRES' POINT OF VIEW
 Pirelli knows the Sakhir circuit well, one of the favorite venues for testing different categories.
 At a tactical level, the choices may vary: last year the first 10 at the finish line adopted nine different strategies.
 The bottom is granite, but it is not very abrasive. Thermal degradation is a factor of utmost importance.
 Falling track temperatures make the track faster during each session.
 The rear tires are the most fatigued, due to the high level of traction.
 Sakhir hosts one of three night races in 2017, along with Singapore and Abu Dhabi.

MARIO ISOLA – CAR RACING MANAGER

“In Sakhir the greatest chronometric advantages are obtained by optimizing traction. It's a stop-and-go track: improved power delivery and rear tire management are two very important factors. Last year wear and degradation were high; it will be interesting to verify any change in these values following the introduction of the widened tires in the 2017 version. The second free practice session is particularly important because it takes place under artificial lighting conditions, representative for qualifying and the race"

MINIMUM PRESSURES AT START:
21,5 psi (front) – 20,5 psi (rear)

MAXIMUM CAMBER:-3.75° (front) | -2.00° (rear)
